Adipurush has crossed the ₹200 crore mark at the global box office in just two days, with a total collection of ₹240 crore
Trade analyst Sumit Kadel reports that the film earned ₹100 crore on its second day, adding to the ₹140 crore it made on the first day
Despite facing criticism for its colloquial language, Adipurush continues to mint money at the box office
Looks like Adipurush is well on its way to becoming the biggest hit of the year. On the second day of its release, Saturday, the film grossed another ₹100 crore worldwide. The total collection now stands at ₹240 crore. In comparison, the January hit Pathaan collected ₹219 crores in its first two days
What are the latest numbers?
According to trade analyst Sumit Kadel's latest tweet, the film has easily entered the ₹200 crore club. “OFFICIAL – With a bumper opening on Day 1, #Adipurush maintains a steady position and takes its total collection to a whopping ₹ 240 CR in 2 days at *Global Box Office* Day 1 – ₹ 140 CR. Day 2 – ₹100 CR. Total - ₹240 CR (Gross Worldwide),” he wrote.
In another tweet, he added, “#Adipurush Day 2 - All Languages Collection costs ₹ 65 cr net mints 22.10 cr net only from AP | TL on Saturday.. SUPERB HOLD Day -1 ₹ 87 cr net Day -2 ₹ 65 cr netTwo days total - 152 cr net Eying ₹ 215 cr + net weekend.” Those are domestic numbers.
Minting money despite criticism
The film stars Prabhas as Raghav (Ram), Kriti Sanon as Janaki (Sita), and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (Raavan). It is produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series.
The multilingual 3D spectacle, which was released to much fanfare on Friday, has come under fire for its colloquial language.
Its Hindi dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir released a statement on Sunday saying that the makers have decided to "edit some dialogues" and the edited lines will be added to the film by this week.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday raised objections to some dialogues and scenes in the film Adipursh, accusing them of hurting Hindu sentiments and saying the BJP had allowed "cheap politics" to be created.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Saturday demanded that the censor board temporarily ban the screening of the film until its "controversial" scenes and dialogues are re-examined.
On Saturday, a protest was held in Chhattisgarh's Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district demanding a nationwide ban on the screening of Adipurush, which the protesters alleged was a conspiracy against Sanatan Dharma.
